UNESCO trails of Meteora

Explore the World Heritage Site and the historic trails of Meteora by MTB

The spectacular rock formations of Meteora and the surrounding forest, located in central Greece, is one of the top mountain biking hotspots in the country. The high sandstone pillars scattered amidst the Thessalian plain look like something out of a fairy tale. The spectacular Byzantine cathedrals sit perched on top of the towering rocks at truly dizzying heights.

The incredible landscape has often served as a filming location for Hollywood movies: The unforgettable Roger Moore as James Bond was captured on the big screen in a breath-taking rock-climbing scene in the 1981 box-office hit “For Your Eyes Only”.

Exploring this landscape by MTB is one of the most remarkable MTB experiences in Greece. Wonderful natural trails lead through the sandstone rocks and the surrounding forest area. Great panoramic views await you along the way. Whether beginner or advanced, our guided MTB tours are individually adapted to your skills. So, nothing stands in the way of a fantastic biking experience!

WHAT TO EXPECT
We meet at the Meteora E-bike centre in the heart of Kalambaka. Once there you are given your rental bike as well as other necessary equipment and we do a bike fitting together.

We offer three different levels of difficulty for your tailor-made MTB experience:

Beginner – technical difficulty level 1: 2 hours (approx.) – 15 km / 9 mi.

Intermediate – technical difficulty level 2: 2.5 hours (approx.) – 20 km / 12.5 mi.

Advanced – technical difficulty level 3: 2.5 hrs. (approx.) – 20 km / 12.5 mi.

Decide together with the guide which level suits you best and off you go! From Kalambaka, we are only a few minutes away from dream-like trails through unique scenery and beautiful nature.

One of our destinations is the remote monastery of Ypapanti, hidden in a rock cave and considered one of the jewels of Meteora. Nearby there is also the monument of the local hero Papathymios Vlahavas, who played an important role in the Greek War of Independence from 1821-1830.

Our competent guide gives you riding tips along the way to ensure that you feel completely safe on your bike. They also have many exciting stories about the history and nature of Meteora in their repertoire and are happy to tell you as much as you want to know.

Whether you choose an easy MTB tour or are looking for a thrill, the surreal landscape of the Meteora World Heritage Site ensures that you won’t forget this 2.5-hour ride in a hurry!
