Chania on the northwest coast of Crete is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful cities on Greece’s largest island. The city looks back on a rich history, which can be seen in the various architectural styles of its buildings.
Join us on a walk through the old town of Chania and listen to its stories, myths, and legends. Along the way, you meet various local craftspeople and traders, learn interesting facts about their work and even get a chance to try your hand at their crafts.
The old Ottoman and Jewish quarters provide a vivid impression of Chania’s eventful history. Your guide shows you the hidden corners of the city, each of which has its own exciting story to tell. Of course, this tour also includes a tasting of various local specialities.
We offer our walking tour of Chania all year round and daily (except Sundays) starting at 09:30 am.
Due to the strategic location of their island, the Cretans have always been forced to fight for their freedom and independence and to defend the land of their ancestors. This eventful past has shaped Chania into a city with a fascinating history.
Join us on a relaxed walk through Chania and find out what makes Crete’s cultural capital so unique. Alongside your guide, you explore the most important sites of the old town, visit popular attractions, and discover insider tips and the hidden gems of the lesser-known Ottoman and Jewish quarters. Get ready to experience Chania with all your senses.
Once we have indulged in the delicious market delights, we continue to the old town with its charming winding alleyways. Along the way, we learn about several Venetian and Ottoman monuments and discover beautiful hidden gardens. Your guide shares stories and legends of kings, sailors, merchants, heroes, lovers, and artists. It soon becomes evident how this city became a crossroads between Europe and Asia.
We then continue through the Ottoman and Jewish quarters, where we learn how the many cultural influences have affected the lives of the inhabitants over the centuries. Finally, we make our way along the historic harbour promenade to one of the locals’ favourite spots. Here we can relax and enjoy a table of Cretan meze (appetisers).
This is where our tour ends – the perfect place to continue exploring the city on your own. We are also happy to take you back to the starting point of our tour. Don’t forget to ask your guide for some insider tips before parting ways.
