There are numerous reasons why Chania, located on Crete’s north-western coast, is considered the most beautiful city on the island of Minos: The Venetian old town, built in the 16th and 17th centuries, surrounds the imposing harbour and is a true architectural gem.
The old town of Chania is the perfect place for a walking tour with its picturesque alleyways, unique artisan shops, and varied selection of culinary delights. If you’re a lover of good food and wine, this tour is the perfect fit for you!
Along the way, you gain a fascinating insight into Chania’s rich history, are given plenty of time to browse the extraordinary, traditional crafts made by local artisans, and sample a wide range of delicacies.
A real highlight of the tour is the spectacular, vibrant sunset over the Venetian harbour. You also enjoy a three-course gourmet dinner accompanied by excellent local wines with descriptions from a skilled sommelier. Afterwards, you can enjoy a delicious organic ice-cream followed by the proverbial “cherry on top of the cake”: the Cretan all-time favourite, Raki.
We offer our Sunset & Wine Tour through Chania every day all year round starting at 6:30 pm.
The starting point of our Chania tour is at Kydon Hotel, where our local tour guide is waiting for us right at the entrance of the hotel.
Walking through the winding streets, we experience the lesser-known parts of the old town and hear stories and myths about unique old buildings, famous locals, and rebels. Although they often sound like fiction, there is plenty of truth behind these anecdotes!
Along the way, we point out hip, alternative bars where you return later to relax and enjoy a drink. We also visit our favorite shops, including a cooperative dedicated to preserving locally produced handicrafts and food, which directly supports local producers and artisans.
We then drive to a fantastic look-out point from where we can enjoy the most enchanting sunset with the old harbor in the foreground.
All those who have a sweet tooth will be pleased to know that after the wine tasting there is something sweet to enjoy: Ice cream! We sample the most delicious ice creams, made from fresh local sheep’s milk, nuts, fruits, and other ingredients.
Our variety-filled tour wouldn’t be complete without a nightcap at a beloved pub: it’s raki time! The Cretans’ favorite drink is a grape-based spirit, similar to Italian grappa!
Take the opportunity to ask your local guide for more tips and advice on how to get the most out of your trip to Crete before you part ways!
