Natural spectacle: Discover Navarino Bay by kayak

The horseshoe-shaped Navarino Bay is one of the most impressive natural wonders of the Peloponnese. Furthermore, it serves as the natural harbor of the town of Pylos. In the Middle Ages, the town was called Navarino. It was here, where in 1827 the last great naval battle fought exclusively from the decks of great sailing ships took place. In this historic battle, Greece gained its independence from the Ottomans after years of rebellion.

At this important site, our kayak tour takes you through a landscape of almost unbelievable beauty. Our five nautical mile (10 km / 6 mi.) tour takes you past impressive rock formations, caves, and golden sandy beaches.

We experience somewhat of a Robinson Crusoe atmosphere as we visit the remote island of Sphacteria, a popular nesting site for birds and a seal sanctuary. Here we enjoy a picnic and have time to snorkel and swim! Look forward to a journey through history and a great nature experience!

This tour can be booked every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday between March and November with a minimum of 2 participants.

Our kayaking experience starts at Divari Beach, also known as Golden Beach, near the Gialova Lagoon north of Pylos.

This beach is the ideal starting point for today’s tour due to its shallow waters. Before we set off, you receive a safety briefing from our guide and an introduction to energy-saving paddling techniques.

During the paddle tour, you discover a picturesque landscape of almost otherworldly beauty. You can look forward to stunning rock formations, crystal clear water in various shades of blue, and golden sandy beaches where the sea turtles Caretta Caretta lay their eggs.

Another impressive sight is the two medieval forts that guard the famous Navarino Bay, the silent witnesses of the great naval battle of 1827. About halfway through our tour, we reach the remote islet of Sphacteria. Here we discover hidden caves and spot a variety of birds. With a bit of luck, we will also encounter the adorable Mediterranean monk seals.

On the island we get off the kayaks and spend some time walking to experience the island and travel through time with some storytelling. Back to the kayaks and off we go north to admire the open Ionian sea as well as the impressive fort of Paleokastro. After some paddling we make an extended break at a beach for swimming, sunbathing and enjoying a homemade picnic of local delicacies.

Then we make our way back to Divari Beach, where our eventful kayak tour ends.

The itinerary of this tour is subject to weather conditions and the ability of the participants. Our guides are entitled to make changes, but should this be the case, the changes will have a positive effect on your holiday experience.
