This tour leads to the mountainous region of Arcadia, situated in the heart of the Peloponnese. The stunning highlands provide numerous opportunities to explore the breath-taking scenery. The region’s picturesque stone villages are also well worth exploring. Here you will experience the warm hospitality of the Greeks and gain an insight into traditional Peloponnese life.
Fun and adventure are guaranteed on the action-packed rafting tour which leads along the crystal-clear river Lousios and through the densely vegetated gorge of the same name. Along the way, we see the spectacular “Koukos” bridge, which crosses the roaring river.
On the second day, we don our hiking boots and explore the beautiful landscape on foot. A special highlight of the tour is a visit to the intriguing Prodromou Monastery, spectacularly nestled into the cliff face. We immerse ourselves in Greek culture while exploring the traditional mountain villages of Karytaina, Dimitsana, and Stemnitsa.
You can do this tour either with a guide or self-guided. With the guided option, you will be accompanied by a tour guide, with the tour starting and ending in Athens. With the self-guided option, you will receive all necessary information for the tour in advance.
This tour operates all year round and can start on any day.
Once in Arcadia, the rest of the day is dedicated to the rafting tour on the Lousios River. According to Pausanias, Zeus, the father of the Olympic gods, bathed in the Lousios after his birth. We paddle along the crystal-clear river through the beautiful and densely vegetated Lousios Gorge.
Before the tour begins, we are provided with wetsuits and all necessary rafting equipment. We then head to the starting point of the tour. Once here, experienced rafting guides explain everything we need to know about safety and paddling during a short briefing. Afterwards, it’s time for the adventure to begin: Grab your paddles – get set – go!
The river trip takes about two hours. Along the way we make short stops to enjoy the natural spectacle that surrounds us. After our eventful day, we spend the night at a cosy guesthouse in the mountain village of Stemnitsa.
Along the way, we enjoy a picnic lunch and for those who would like, there is time to take a refreshing dip in the river. During the hike, we visit the famous Prodromou Monastery. Our hike comes to an end at the archaeological site of Ancient Gortys. Naturally, we do not leave before marvelling at the ruins of the ancient acropolis.
Those who chose the guided tour option are transferred back to Athens. If you opted for the self-guided tour, you can either return to Athens on your own or continue exploring the Peloponnese.
During the tour, you stay in a homely guesthouse, which was built in the traditional Arcadian style of stone and wood. All rooms are well equipped with their own bathroom including shower, toilet, and hairdryer, and there is free Wi-Fi throughout the guesthouse.
Here you will experience true hospitality, and the thick stone walls of the beautiful house will take you back to times gone by. Most of the rooms have their own fireplace and some also have a terrace. A rich breakfast with lovingly home-made delicacies will give you the energy you need for the day ahead in Arcadia.
The rafting tour requires standard physical fitness and some courage. You will receive a detailed introduction to rafting techniques by a professional guide before you start. Surefootedness and sturdy shoes are required for the planned hike.
