WHERE YOUR TOUR STARTS
Our tour starts at 8:30 am at the main entrance to the Temple of Olympian Zeus (Vasilissis Olgas Avenue). It can get very busy there, however, you should be able to spot your guide easily as they will be holding a sign saying, “Alternative Athens”.

WHAT TO SEE
The imposing Temple of Zeus was once the unofficial gateway to ancient Athens. Even today, its gigantic columns amaze those who visit. From there, our guide leads us to the huge Theatre of Dionysus, which once held 17,500 spectators and was one of the largest theatres in the ancient world.

Afterwards, we continue up to the Acropolis, where we can admire the magnificent architecture of the ancient Greeks: We marvel at the Propylaea, the Temple of Athena Nike, the Erechtheion, and of course the wonderful Parthenon. Along the way, we can also enjoy fantastic views over the whole of Athens.

WHAT TO LISTEN TO
You are sure to discover that the ancient myths seem to come alive on Athens’ most famous mountain. Look forward to stories about Zeus, the father of the gods, Poseidon, the god of the sea, and Athena, the patron saint of the Greek capital.

You’ll also learn why the Greeks created their world of gods and what truths lie behind all the wonderful myths. After the Acropolis visit, our journey through the past continues with a visit to the ancient Agora. This is where democracy was born and where great philosophers such as Socrates spoke about global truths.

The Agora is also home to the Hephaisteion, the best-preserved temple in Greece, which was shared by Athena and Hephaistos, the god of the forge. Here you hear more mythical stories about Theseus and the Minotaur.

Your guide also tells you fascinating legends about Zeus’ jealous wife, Hera, and Aphrodite, the goddess of love and beauty. By the end of this multifaceted tour, you will not only be an expert in Greek mythology, but you will also know all about the founding of Athens and how it rose to become one of the most important cities in the ancient world.

With this understanding, it becomes clear how the Athenians managed to enhance the fame of their city with such impressive monuments, which to this day remain as immortal and legendary as their gods.
