DAY 1
(Sat) Athens (Arrival) | Individual journey to Athens. An exclusive transfer from Athens Airport to the hotel in the city centre can be arranged on request for an additional fee.

Check in at the hotel in Athens old town is possible from 3 pm onwards. If you arrive in the afternoon, take some time for a walk through Plaka or do a bike fitting together with the guide. In the evening, the guide gives the group an overview of the upcoming week.

DAY 2
(Sun) Athens – Pelion Peninsula (approx. 16 mi. / 25 km & 1,148 ft. / 350 m of elevation) | After a tasty breakfast, it is time to start the first bike tour of the trip. This morning’s route is particularly special, leading through the historic centre of Athens and along the beautiful nature trails of the Philopappos area.

We can look forward to breath-taking views of the Athenian Acropolis and narrow, colourful alleyways. A visit to a typical kafenion, where we can sample traditional sweet treats, completes this urban biking experience. After lunch, a transfer takes us to the Pelion Peninsula (approx. 4.5 hours’ drive).

Here we check into the fantastic apartment accommodation, located close to the sea. Once settled in, there is plenty of time to take a walk on the beach or to explore the nearby villages of Kato Gatzea and Kala Nera before rounding off the eventful day with dinner altogether.

DAY 3
(Mon) Pelion Peninsula – Mt. Olympus (approx. 25 mi. / 40 km & 2,461 ft. / 750 m of elevation) | The Pelion Peninsula is the quintessence of wild, untouched nature, and here the picturesque villages are all connected by a centuries-old trail network.

In short: an MTB paradise! Today we bike through the villages of Ag. Georgios, Vyzitsa, Pinakates and Milies. In Vyzitsa there is time for a well-deserved coffee break under an impressive plane tree. In the village of Milies we visit a 14th-century Byzantine church with beautiful frescoes.

The route continues along a section of the historic railway line which connects the villages of Pelion with the harbour town of Volos. Before reaching the coast, we stop at a local cooperative, where we have the opportunity to buy various crafts, honey, and jams.

Once back by the sea, there is plenty of time for a refreshing swim and delicious lunch. Afterwards, a transfer takes us to Mount Olympus (approx. 2 hours drive). Here, we can look forward to the beautiful accommodation on the picturesque and tranquil Bellou Wine Estate. At dinner, the inhouse restaurant will convince you that it alone was worth the trip!

DAY 4
(Tue) Mt. Olympus (approx. 22 mi. / 35 km & 1,804 ft. / 550 m of elevation) | Our first bike ride on the mythical Mt. Olympus takes us to the summit of Mt. Voulgara, one of the many summits of the Olympus Mountains. From here, there is a spectacular view of the highest peaks of Mt. Olympus (which are on the program for tomorrow!)

Afterwards, we continue along the varied route on both wider and narrower trails to the villages of Kokkinopilos and Livadi, well known for their cattle breeding. We then return to the winery, where we will spend the night once again.

In the afternoon you are free to choose whether to go for a hike or enjoy the accommodation’s cosy atmosphere. Another varied day ends with a shared dinner.

DAY 5
(Wed) Mt. Olympus (approx. 19 mi. / 30 km & 2,789 ft. / 850 m of elevation) | In the morning, an off-road jeep picks us up and takes us along a gravel road to the Mount Olympus National Park at an altitude of 6,562 ft. / 2,000 m. After the bikes are ready, we continue up the mountain to an altitude of 8,202 ft. / 2,500 m.

After a short break, we bike towards the second highest peak, where there is one pushing stage of approx. 1 mi. / 1.5 km. Once back on our bikes, we can enjoy a breath-taking descent from the home of the ancient gods. Great trails through alpine meadows, forest passages, and fabulous views of the impressive mountains and the Aegean Sea await us.

Along the way, we stop to enjoy a picnic. The final trail ends at the village square of Karya, famous for its meat specialities. Here, we enjoy an early dinner before returning to the Bellou Winery for another overnight stay.

DAY 6
(Thu) Mt. Olympus – Meteora (approx. 22 mi. / 35 km & 1,967 ft. / 600 m of elevation) | After a final breakfast in the peaceful surroundings of the Bellou Estate, we take a transfer to Meteora (approx. 2.5 hours). The length of the drive is sure to be quickly forgotten as soon as the striking sandstone cliffs, reminiscent of a fairy-tale landscape, come into view.

Meteora was declared a World Heritage Site because of its unique setting in a dried lake and the multitude of Orthodox monasteries clinging to the pointed sandstone outcrops. Shortly after our arrival, we start today’s bike tour. Fantastic flow trails with magical views of the rocky landscape await us along the way.

After lunch, we visit some of the monasteries and, at the end of the bike tour, we have the opportunity to visit the Natural History Museum in Kalambaka. In the evening, we enjoy a meal together with a selection of excellent local wines.

DAY 7
(Fri) Meteora – Athens (approx. 16 mi. / 25 km & 1,312 ft. / 400 m of elevation) | A comparatively short, relaxed bike tour brings our Greek bike week to a close. The route leads through the picturesque forest near Meteora.

We start by taking the ring road around the Meteora rocks until we reach a lookout point that offers a panoramic view over the Thessalian plain and the entire Meteora complex. The return journey to the hotel mainly follows flow trails that end at the outskirts of Kalambaka.

For those who brought their own bikes, there will be time to clean them and pack them away at a nearby washing area, ready for the return trip home. After lunch, we take a transfer back to Athens (approx. 4.5 hours).

After check-in at the Athens hotel, our guide accompanies us to a great restaurant with a view of the famous Athens Acropolis, which is beautifully illuminated every evening.

DAY 8
(Sat) Athens (Departure) | After breakfast, check-out from the hotel and individual journey home or extension of your Greek holiday. On request, we would be happy to organise exclusive transfers to Athens Airport for a fee.

All accommodation possibilities are carefully selected and offer the greatest possible comfort after a day full of activity. They are all very well-kept and are characterized by a peaceful and welcoming atmosphere and friendly, helpful staff.

Of course, all hotels have a secure area to keep your bicycles. Booking of overnight stays is subject to availability. You will receive a hotel list and further detailed information about your tour before the beginning of the trip.

Where does this trip start and end?
This tour starts and ends in Athens, easily accessible via Athens International Airport (ATH). Transfers from the airport to the first hotel of the tour and from the last hotel tour to the airport are included in the tour price.

Is this tour suitable for children?
In general, we do not consider this tour to be suitable for children. However, young people with a high level of endurance, the necessary riding technique and a minimum age of 14 years are welcome on this tour. Rental bikes can only be provided for people 1.50 m / 5 ft. or taller.

What language is the tour conducted in?
The tour is conducted exclusively in English.

What meals and drinks are included in the basic tour price?
This trip has full board catering. A rich breakfast is served every day at the hotel, and lunch is either a picnic eaten along the way or is enjoyed in a taverna. Dinner is served in traditional restaurants, where you can look forward to a culinary journey through Greek delicacies.

If you have any food allergies or special dietary requirements such as vegetarian or vegan, please let us know in good time before the start of the trip. Drinks except breakfast coffee/tea and mineral water are excluded.

Are changes to the tour itinerary possible?
We reserve the right to make changes to the route in the event of exceptional weather conditions or due to organisational necessities.

How difficult is this tour?
This trip ranges from easy to challenging day tours with mountainous stages of 16-25 mi. / 25-40 km and with 1,148-2,789 ft. / 350-850 m of elevation. You should have single-trail experience if you wish to take part in this tour.

The mountain bike terrain is as varied as the landscapes of mainland Greece: technically demanding single trails (which can also be skipped if necessary) requiring appropriate riding skills alternate with flow trails, natural paths, and quiet asphalt side roads. Pushing sections are extremely rare. The majority of the bike stages are on trails from S0 to S1. There are short S2 passages, but they can also be skipped or avoided if necessary.

Group riding pace
On our MTB tours, the group pace is set by the mountain bikers on regular MTBs. Those who use or rent an E-MTB are asked to be considerate of those in the group who ride without electric assistance. Bikers on regular MTBs need more time and breaks during the climbs. We thank you for your understanding.

Requirement to wear a helmet
Helmets are mandatory on our bike tours. We advise you to bring your own, well-fitted helmet with you as we only have a limited number of rental helmets (reservation required). Furthermore, we recommend wearing arm and leg protectors during the bike tours.

What should I pack for this tour?
As space in the transfer vehicles is limited, we ask you to travel with as little luggage as possible and to avoid hard cases. If you plan to stay longer in Greece and will therefore travel with more luggage, we will be happy to provide a safe storage facility in Athens for everything you don’t need during this bike tour.

The following list is only a guideline, which you can of course modify according to your own needs:

  • Fully functioning bike (bikes can also be rented on request)
  • Bike clothing incl. helmet
  • Rain jacket and/or windbreaker
  • Bike backpack
