Experience the Cyclades Island of Milos by kayak

Enjoy bizarrre rock formations and azure sea

Milos is world-famous thanks to the Venus of Milos statue exhibited in the Louvre in Paris yet is one of the least known of the Cycladic islands. Milos is therefore the perfect holiday destination for anyone wishing to have a truly authentic island experience. Like Santorini, Milos is also of volcanic origin, which gives the island its enchanting symphony of colours. Bright red rocks, bizarre white tuff formations, numerous caves, azure sea, and hot springs fill the island’s visitors with wonder time and time again.

Besides its enchanting nature, Milos delights with its picturesque traditional fishing villages. The white captain’s houses built directly on the coast with their brightly painted doors and shutters exude pure Cycladic charm. Could there be a more spectacular location for a multi-day kayak experience? During the week you paddle to numerous beautiful bays, into hidden caves, and can watch the house fronts of the coastal villages drift by as you glide through the shimmering sea. Look forward to swimming in secluded bays and picnicking on dreamlike beaches.

The experienced kayak guides lead different kayak tours every day, which usually take between three and four hours and are easily manageable even for beginners. They also bring you to historical and archaeological sites on the island and share fascinating facts and interesting stories about Greece and Milos.

  • Wonders of nature: Experience the fabulous rocky landscape of Milos

WHAT TO EXPECT
You make your way individually by ferry or plane to the Island of Milos. Your holiday at the Petrinela Guesthouse can begin on any day, depending on room availability.

Check-in is possible from 1 pm onwards after which you can unpack and settle in for the next eight nights. And so, your seven days of experiencing Milos begins!

You can enjoy kayak tours for six of the seven days, with one day planned as a rest day. However, on this kayak-free day, you are welcome to go for a hike, spend a day at the beach, or even visit one of the neighbouring islands such as Folegandros.

A TYPICAL DAY
A typical day on this trip looks like this: We start our day at 8:30 am with breakfast in the guesthouse café and plan the day together, choosing a suitable kayak tour depending on the wind direction and strength.

There are a total of 12 options to choose from, so you can look forward to discovering new and beautiful paddling locations every day during the trip. Your guide is highly experienced and will carefully choose the perfect route each day.

At 9:30 am we leave the guesthouse and take a transfer to the starting point of our day tour and return around 5 pm. During the day we enjoy the wonderful Aegean Sea, gliding through the water in your kayak, powered solely by your own strength.

Marvel at the incredible rock formations that pass you by, swim, or snorkel in the most beautiful bays, which we often enjoy all to ourselves, and look forward to small detours to places well worth seeing. The guide accompanies you throughout the tours and ensures your safety and comfort.

HOW TO SPEND THE EVENING
The evenings are yours to enjoy as you like: After a well-deserved hot shower, you can enjoy a coffee or cocktail, take a stroll through the village, or have dinner with newfound friends in a local taverna.

With so many exciting experiences and impressions, your vacation week is sure to fly by, but the wonderful memories of your unforgettable Greek kayaking holiday will stay with you for years to come.

Charming Guesthouse on Milos Island

Petrinela Guesthouse is located in Triovasolas on the northwestern part of Milos Island. The accommodation offers nine comfortable and well-equipped double and twin rooms.

Each room has air conditioning, a ceiling fan, and a private bathroom.  Some rooms also have a fully equipped kitchenette. The rooms on the upper floor have a balcony overlooking the rooftops of the village and the surrounding countryside.  Our first-floor rooms are easily accessible and have spacious patios.

Visitors usually return to stay again and agree that the hospitality of the family who runs the hotel is second to none! This makes Petrinela the ideal accommodation for our kayaking adventure on Milos and offers the warm atmosphere you desire after an eventful day outdoors.

How do I get to Milos?
There are two ways to get to Milos: Either you take a ferry from Athens/Piraeus or you can take a plane from Athens. The domestic flight takes only 25 minutes. It is best to take a taxi from the port or airport in Milos to the Petrinela Guesthouse.

What language is the tour conducted in?
This tour is only available in English.

Can I choose other accommodation?
The tour price includes eight nights in the Petrinela Guesthouse. If you would prefer to stay at another accommodation, you will have to book it yourself and can then book the kayak tours as day tours separately.

How fit do I have to be to participate in this tour?
A good basic level of fitness is required. Our day trips vary between 12 and 16 km / 7 and 10 mi., which corresponds to about 3 hours of paddling.

Usually, we do not paddle for more than an hour at a time, after which we take a long break. During the breaks, you can relax or enjoy a swim in the sea.

If the winds are strong, it may take longer to cover the distances. In such cases, good endurance is an advantage. However, our guides can anticipate such an eventuality. They will inform you in advance so that you can always decide to skip a planned day trip if you wish.

How difficult are the kayak tours? Do I need any prior experience?
Our kayak tours are designed in such a way that anyone with an average level of fitness can manage them without any previous experience.

In addition to high-quality kayak equipment, you will also receive a safety and technical briefing. We always paddle in a group to ensure everyone’s safety. The best way to learn efficient, energy-saving paddling is during the activity itself. Your guide is always close by to give you tips and advice.

Will I also get my money's worth as an experienced kayaker?
Absolutely. As there are always two guides accompanying a group, it is also possible to split the group so that experienced kayakers can go further and faster.

Is it better to use a single or a double kayak?
In general, both single and double kayaks are available. For participants with little or no kayaking experience, we recommend double kayaks. These are very helpful for paddlers with different levels of strength and are a great advantage on windier days as they are more efficient to paddle and more stable in the water. Experienced kayakers are also welcome to opt for a single kayak.

Are the kayak tours safe?
Your safety is our top priority. Our guides are experienced and qualified to lead groups on the open sea. They know how to ensure that your paddling experience is enjoyable. Of course, they are also trained to handle emergencies.

We will not start a tour until we are sure that each participant understands how to handle the kayak and is aware of what to expect along the way.

What are the age requirements for this tour?
Children aged 14 and over are welcome on this tour if accompanied by at least one parent or guardian.

What happens if it is too windy to kayak?
As the Cyclades are generally a windy region, strong winds can occur at any time of the year. Generally, this does not affect our tours, as we can go to the wind-protected side of the island, depending on the wind direction.

It is very rare that we cannot go on a day tour at all. Should this be the case, we will either reschedule the planned rest day or try to find an adequate active alternative for your holiday.

What should I bring on this tour?
Below you will find a brief guideline for what to bring with you, which you can of course modify according to your own needs.
