Thessaloniki – eternally young, eternally hip. Greece’s second-largest city is wonderfully rich in contrasts: Ancient and medieval monuments are surrounded by modern architecture. Lively shopping streets alternate with quiet hidden corners. Art and industry live side by side and there’s an iconic waterfront promenade to stroll along.
A city tour of this northern port metropolis wouldn’t be complete without tasting some of Thessaloniki’s unique delicacies. Find out why the city is considered the culinary capital of Greece!
On our gourmet tour, you discover the culinary highlights of northern Greece and the locals’ favourite treats, and also explore the great sights of the port city. Experience Thessaloniki with all your senses and you are sure to fall in love with this magnificent metropolis.
We offer our culinary tour of Thessaloniki daily starting at 9:30 am all year round.
As we are sampling a wide range of food today, we advise you to have a small breakfast. We start our culinary tour at Aristotelous Square in the heart of the city, just a stone’s throw away from the waterfront. This square, surrounded by impressive neoclassical buildings, is the busiest and most important in Thessaloniki.
As drinking coffee is a daily ritual in Greece, we can’t start the day without enjoying a cup of freshly brewed Greek coffee in a traditional kafeneion. Enjoy the atmosphere as we mingle with the locals and learn all about Greek coffee culture.
We then walk through Thessaloniki’s bustling business district, stopping at various shops and sampling unique treats along the way, from traditional sesame bread rings, koulouri, to puff pastry bougatsa.
Nowhere does this delicacy taste better than in Thessaloniki! These delicious treats can be filled with almost anything, such as sweet cream, spinach, cheese, minced meat, and much more!
Next, we head to Athonos Square, which exudes an old-world charm with its many traditional “ouzeries” and small tavernas. Just like the locals, we take our time to enjoy delicious meze (local Greek tapas) paired with ouzo or tsipouro in an old-established ouzeri.
Our tour ends either here, a perfect place to continue exploring the city on your own, or at the starting point of the tour in Aristotelous Square.
Before parting ways, don’t forget to ask your guide for more tips and advice on how to make the most of your stay in the fascinating city of Thessaloniki.
