WHERE TO MEET
Heraklion is not necessarily a city that captivates visitors at a first glance, but that’s exactly why you should book our “Lucullan Heraklion” tour: With a local guide, you will dive into the fascinating soul of the Cretan capital.

We meet at 9 am and head to the centre of Heraklion to start the day with a traditional Greek coffee. This goes wonderfully with a “koulouri”, a traditional pastry that looks similar to a bagel and is typically sprinkled with sesame seeds. Here you are given an introduction to the local history.

EXPLORE THE OLD TOWN
Starting from Freedom Square, we get to know the city as it is today, and how it was centuries ago. Along the way, we discover numerous traces of the various foreign occupiers who have left their mark on Heraklion’s architectural image from Byzantines, Arabs, Venetians, and Turks to pirates… yes, pirates!

We continue walking through the pedestrian area of 25th August Street and admire some of Heraklion’s most important sights, such as St. Titus Cathedral and the Morosini Fountain in the heart of the city.

We continue through the hidden alleys of Heraklion before leaping back in time with a walk on Heraklion’s great Venetian fortification walls, from where we have the best view of the city.

EXPERIENCE THE LOCAL CUISINE
Afterwards, we go to the secluded grave and monument of Nikos Kazantzakis, the great son of Crete, and learn what inspired him to write his most famous novel “Alexis Zorbas”. Nothing embodies Crete better than its food and wine, and there are plenty of both at our last stop.

Discover the typical cuisine and enjoy one of Crete’s most delicious exports – its wine. Sample a platter of delicious mezedes and round off this taste explosion with Crete’s national drink, a glass of raki. Cheers!
