Crete’s capital Heraklion doesn’t appear to be a picturesque beauty at first glance, but if you scratch its concrete surface just a little, the real highlights of this city will reveal themselves to you.
On our guided culinary tour of Heraklion, you’ll discover hidden alleys and lesser-known backstreets right in the heart of the city, as well as all the major sights of the island’s capital through the eyes of a local.
As in almost every Greek city, the life of the locals in Heraklion frequently revolves around one of their favourite pastimes: Food & Drink! So you don’t miss out on any of the culinary delights, we ensure you sample a wide range of local delicacies on our foray into the capital of Crete.
Afterwards, you’re guaranteed to see Heraklion in a different light!
We offer our culinary tour of Heraklion every day all year round starting at 9 am.
We meet at 9 am and head to the centre of Heraklion to start the day with a traditional Greek coffee. This goes wonderfully with a “koulouri”, a traditional pastry that looks similar to a bagel and is typically sprinkled with sesame seeds. Here you are given an introduction to the local history.
We continue walking through the pedestrian area of 25th August Street and admire some of Heraklion’s most important sights, such as St. Titus Cathedral and the Morosini Fountain in the heart of the city.
We continue through the hidden alleys of Heraklion before leaping back in time with a walk on Heraklion’s great Venetian fortification walls, from where we have the best view of the city.
Discover the typical cuisine and enjoy one of Crete’s most delicious exports – its wine. Sample a platter of delicious mezedes and round off this taste explosion with Crete’s national drink, a glass of raki. Cheers!
Please inform us when booking the tour if you have any special food intolerances or would like to request a vegetarian option. Vegan options are unfortunately not available on this tour.
