Active Holiday on Halkidiki

Discover Greece’s most beloved peninsula by kayak, bike, and on foot

The Halkidiki peninsula lies south of Thessaloniki, stretching out into the Aegean Sea. Its three fingers, Kassandra, Sithonia, and Athos give the peninsula its distinctive look. Athos is certainly the most well-known of the three, being the home of the Autonomous Monastic Republic of the Holy Mountain.

Halkidiki captivates its visitors with its rich contrasts of dreamlike bays, dense mountain forests, and numerous cultural sites. Look forward to a variety-packed adventurous journey on foot, by kayak and bike, and enjoy the incredible views and spectacular landscape.

As we follow in the footsteps of Aristotle, we pass enchanting mountain villages and Caribbean-esque beaches. This trip is sure to leave you with incredible memories.

DAY 1
Arrival in Thessaloniki | Individual arrival by plane to Makedonia Airport in Thessaloniki. Our transfer bus awaits you here and brings you to the hotel in the centre of Thessaloniki.

We recommend enjoying dinner in a local taverna on your first evening. There is no shortage of choice – Thessaloniki is not called the gastronomic capital of Greece for nothing!

DAY 2
Sithonia (approx. 22 mi./35 km by MTB) | Ready for a day of activity? We take a transfer bus to the starting point of our first bike tour, Sithonia, the middle of the three fingers of Halkidiki.

Starting from Elia Beach, we ride through the protected pine forests of Sithonia, enjoying unforgettable views of Toroneos Gulf along the way. We make a first stop at the Chapel of St. Paul, which dates back to the early 20th century.

Afterwards, we continue along forest paths to the old village of Parthemonas, 1,150 ft./350 m above sea level. Here we take another break and enjoy a refreshing cool drink and the village’s traditional architecture.

Well rested, we start the descent back down to Elia Beach, where we have time for a swim in the sea before checking into our hotel and enjoying a delicious late lunch at a local taverna.

DAY 3
Paleokastro – Polygyro – Amaia (approx. 15 mi./25 km by MTB) | Today we explore the mountainous region of Halkidiki around Mount Cholomon, located near the village of Palaiokastro. From here we follow a 15 mi./25 km long bike route to Polygyro, enjoying the breath-taking nature that surrounds us.

Along the way, we take a break and enjoy a delicious picnic in the middle of the forest. After our bike leg, we take a transfer to Amaia, the best-preserved and most authentic village in the region.

We enjoy a longer walk through the village, admire the architecture, and taste some local specialities. Afterwards, the transfer bus brings us back to the hotel.

DAY 4
Vourvourou – Diaporos Island (approx. 5 nautical miles by kayak) | After breakfast, we take a transfer to Vourvourou where we will take an unforgettable sea kayak tour. Once we arrive, we receive a short introduction on how to kayak and on details about the excursion.

Then it’s time to start paddling! Our destination is Diaporos Island, known for its crystal-clear waters and unique landscape. Along the way, we take breaks at two beaches; one on the southern side of the island and one at Hawaii Beach, where we enjoy a small picnic by the sea.

We are taken to a small village nearby, known for some delicious specialities, before returning to the hotel for another night.

DAY 5
Stageira – Olympiada (approx. 8.5 mi./14 km on foot, 1,148 ft./350 m uphill, 2,296 ft./700 m downhill) | Today we visit the ancient city of Stageira, the birthplace of the famous philosopher Aristotle. In Aristotle’s Park, we learn more about his life. Afterwards, we follow a hiking route up Mount Stratoniko, which leads us to the coastal village of Olympiada.

Aristotle would teach his philosophy to his students along the hiking trail, lined with ancient oak and beech trees. After our hike, we enjoy lunch in the nearby village before returning to Sithonia.

DAY 6
Parthenonas – Sykia (approx. 18.5 mi./30 km by MTB) | A new day, a new bike tour! We take a transfer to the starting point of our tour, the historical village of Parthenonas.

Once here, we hop on our bikes and make our way through the pine forests of Sithonia to the eastern side of the peninsula. From here, we enjoy wonderful views of Mount Athos. Our destination is the village of Sykia where we take a short break before heading to the beach.

Our tour ends with a late lunch directly by the glistening water. We then take a transfer back to Sithonia.

DAY 7
Neos Marmaras – Tristinika Beach (approx. 12.5 mi./20 km by MTB) | On our last day in this natural paradise, we enjoy a bike tour to the southern tip of the second finger of Halkidiki. Leaving Neos Marmaras we head to Tristinika Beach, biking through pine forests and never heading far from the coast. Once at the beach, there is time for a refreshing swim before our farewell lunch.

DAY 8
Journey home | After breakfast at the hotel, we check out and say goodbye to Halkidiki, filled with wonderful memories of the holiday week. Transfer to Makedonia Airport in Thessaloniki and individual journey home or extension of your Greek holiday.
