The Halkidiki peninsula lies south of Thessaloniki, stretching out into the Aegean Sea. Its three fingers, Kassandra, Sithonia, and Athos give the peninsula its distinctive look. Athos is certainly the most well-known of the three, being the home of the Autonomous Monastic Republic of the Holy Mountain.
Halkidiki captivates its visitors with its rich contrasts of dreamlike bays, dense mountain forests, and numerous cultural sites. Look forward to a variety-packed adventurous journey on foot, by kayak and bike, and enjoy the incredible views and spectacular landscape.
As we follow in the footsteps of Aristotle, we pass enchanting mountain villages and Caribbean-esque beaches. This trip is sure to leave you with incredible memories.
*Individual travel dates are also available on request for groups of 6+ people.
We recommend enjoying dinner in a local taverna on your first evening. There is no shortage of choice – Thessaloniki is not called the gastronomic capital of Greece for nothing!
Starting from Elia Beach, we ride through the protected pine forests of Sithonia, enjoying unforgettable views of Toroneos Gulf along the way. We make a first stop at the Chapel of St. Paul, which dates back to the early 20th century.
Afterwards, we continue along forest paths to the old village of Parthemonas, 1,150 ft./350 m above sea level. Here we take another break and enjoy a refreshing cool drink and the village’s traditional architecture.
Well rested, we start the descent back down to Elia Beach, where we have time for a swim in the sea before checking into our hotel and enjoying a delicious late lunch at a local taverna.
Along the way, we take a break and enjoy a delicious picnic in the middle of the forest. After our bike leg, we take a transfer to Amaia, the best-preserved and most authentic village in the region.
We enjoy a longer walk through the village, admire the architecture, and taste some local specialities. Afterwards, the transfer bus brings us back to the hotel.
Then it’s time to start paddling! Our destination is Diaporos Island, known for its crystal-clear waters and unique landscape. Along the way, we take breaks at two beaches; one on the southern side of the island and one at Hawaii Beach, where we enjoy a small picnic by the sea.
We are taken to a small village nearby, known for some delicious specialities, before returning to the hotel for another night.
Aristotle would teach his philosophy to his students along the hiking trail, lined with ancient oak and beech trees. After our hike, we enjoy lunch in the nearby village before returning to Sithonia.
Once here, we hop on our bikes and make our way through the pine forests of Sithonia to the eastern side of the peninsula. From here, we enjoy wonderful views of Mount Athos. Our destination is the village of Sykia where we take a short break before heading to the beach.
Our tour ends with a late lunch directly by the glistening water. We then take a transfer back to Sithonia.
On our mountain bike tours, we exclusively use high-quality MTBs from GHOST. The standard features include suspension forks, disc brakes, and enough gears to master even steeper climbs.
On this tour, you stay in carefully selected hotels (3-4 stars). All accommodations offer the greatest possible comfort. You will receive a hotel list and further detailed information about your tour before the start of the trip.
Hiking tour: The hike requires participants to have a good level of fitness. The route has a length of 8.5 mi. / 14 km and leads through hilly to mountainous terrain. As with the bike tour, there is no time restriction. Most of the time we hike along well-maintained hiking trails. Your guide will provide detailed information about the requirements of the planned tour before it begins. We strongly recommend bringing good walking shoes. The hike is not possible with flip-flops or similar shoes. You may always choose to forego one of our planned activities and instead take a half or full day to do with as you please.
